Naturena, Johannesburg (June 7, 2025)– Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has confirmed the departure of striker Ranga Chivaviro. The club has decided not to renew his contract for the upcoming season, marking the end of his tenure at Naturena.
Chivaviro, who joined the Amakhosi at the start of the 2023/24 season from Marumo Gallants, arrived amid significant fanfare. Known for his physical presence and goal-poaching instincts showcased at his previous club, expectations were high for the Zimbabwe-born forward to bolster Chiefs’ attacking options.
However, his time at Chiefs proved challenging. Chivaviro struggled to consistently replicate his prior goal-scoring form in the demanding DStv Premiership environment. Opportunities were limited at times, and when chances arose, converting them proved difficult. This lack of consistent impact ultimately led to the club’s decision regarding his future.
“We can confirm that Ranga Chivaviro will not be with Kaizer Chiefs for the 2025/26 season,” a club spokesperson stated. “His contract expires at the end of June, and we have taken the decision not to exercise the option for renewal. We thank Ranga for his service and commitment during his time at Naturena and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Chivaviro’s exit is part of an ongoing squad review as Kaizer Chiefs looks to rebuild and strengthen ahead of the new campaign. The club is expected to be active in the transfer market, particularly seeking solutions to enhance their attacking potency, which has been an area of focus in recent seasons.
What This Means for Kaizer Chiefs:
-
Squad Space Freed: Chivaviro’s departure opens up a slot in the attacking department.
-
Rebuild Continues: This decision signals the club’s intent to reshape the squad under the current technical team.
-
Focus on New Signings: Expect increased speculation and activity around potential striker signings as Chiefs aim to improve their goal output for the 2025/26 PSL season.
Chivaviro now becomes a free agent and will be seeking a new club for the upcoming season. His next destination within South African football or beyond remains to be seen.
