Kaizer Chiefs Unveil Promising Youth Development Intake for 2025

Johannesburg, South Africa – April 23, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has officially unveiled its latest crop of youth development talent for 2025, as part of the club’s long-term strategy to reinvigorate its senior squad with homegrown stars.

The announcement was made at the club’s Naturena headquarters, where management introduced 12 young players who will be joining the prestigious Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy.

This year’s intake follows months of nationwide scouting, trials, and grassroots collaborations, with the club focusing on unearthing raw talent that aligns with its iconic football philosophy.

Focus on Local Talent

The 2025 intake features players between the ages of 14 and 18, hailing from various provinces across South Africa, including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and the Eastern Cape. According to Head of Youth Development, Tshiamo Letsholonyane, the club placed a strong emphasis on both skill and character.

“We are not just looking for the best players; we are looking for the right players. Those who show not just technical ability, but also the hunger, discipline, and attitude it takes to succeed at Kaizer Chiefs,” Letsholonyane said.

A Blend of Positions

The intake includes a balanced mix of players across all positions:

• 3 Goalkeepers, known for their reflexes and distribution skills.
• 4 Defenders, showing strong tactical awareness and versatility.
• 3 Midfielders, praised for their vision and creativity.
• 2 Forwards, who have already made names for themselves in junior competitions for their scoring abilities.

Notably, 16-year-old Thabo Mokoena from Soweto has already attracted attention after being named Best Player at the recent Discovery Knockout Cup. He is one of the standout names in this year’s intake.

Pathway to First Team

Kaizer Chiefs have been vocal about their renewed commitment to youth integration, with club legends such as Itumeleng Khune and Doctor Khumalo endorsing the academy’s role in shaping future Amakhosi legends.

The club has also expanded its mentorship program, ensuring that academy players are paired with current and former professionals who guide them on and off the pitch.

Looking Ahead

This 2025 youth intake marks a key chapter in Kaizer Chiefs’ rebuild and long-term vision. The club hopes these youngsters will not only bring success at youth levels but will eventually rise to don the gold and black jersey at FNB Stadium.

Fans can expect to see many of these players feature in the DStv Diski Challenge and other development tournaments throughout the year, offering a glimpse into the club’s exciting future.
